So Long, Farewell (for now)

On April 12th, Nick, Ev, and I were invited to what we thought would be a small gathering of people for dinner. Instead, we were surprised with a huge farewell party, the day the internship ended for us. The meal was insanely delicious, and every single staff member on the property was present. They prayed for us, and good fellowship was enjoyed. It was a huge blessing, and brought beautiful closure to our 8 months at Barnabas.

In January I wrote a farewell post to Dave and Catherine, who interned with us until mid-Janaury, and wanted to do the same for Nick and Evelyn.

Nick & Ev #2

Where do I begin? One of my first thoughts when I met you was something along the lines of “this guy’s hilarious! I like him!” – haha. But in all seriousness, thank you, Nick, for being an exceptional friend to me. For being super intentional, encouraging, compassionate, and down right a.w.e.s.o.m.e. Looking back, I still laugh when you teased me [endlessly] when I forgot my phone passcode [which makes sense, I know], and I’m still thankful that you spent hours assisting me with my tech issues when my computer needed some love. I also appreciate the time you pushed me outside of my comfort zone with that [crazy] hike, or those times you encouraged me to use my ‘loud voice’ when we did espresso together, and needed to get people’s attention! Thank you for your funny jokes, your time spent driving me to Keats and back, teaching me games, your guy advice, your wisdom when we talked about the books we were reading, and so.much.more. I’m thankful for the selfless and godly person you are, Nick. I’ve learned so much from you!

It’s hard to describe in a few sentences how beautiful of a person you are. Your heart spills over with love and empathy for people you care about, and your courage is beyond comprehension. Thank you for being a listening ear, for going deeper, for your wisdom, strength and guidance…you’ve blessed me beyond belief. I enjoyed the fun times we had, such as sharing a chocolate bar here and there, skipping in the snow, dish dance parties, sharing how God’s been working on our hearts, blitz cleaning, and the hour we set aside to exercise in the mornings! You pushed me, challenged me, imparted wisdom to me, encouraged me, cried with me, laughed with me, and so much more. I’m thankful for you, Ev, and I love you very much.

Friends, I encourage you to join me in prayer for Nick and Ev as they just recently moved to Vernon, BC. The transition from Barnabas to their new home was quick. A new season has begun, and we praise God for that. They are currently focusing on breathing deeply and listening to God’s voice in this new chapter in their marriage. Please pray that they would cultivate a beautiful community of friends, that seeds would be planted, and roots would grow, and that they would have a great sense of contentment and purpose for where they are now.

We are so thankful for how God used our time during the internship to give us all direction. There were times we were all unsure about what our next step would be, but God proved, again, to be faithful, and provided us with a plan, in His perfect timing.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
